We love bicycling as a lifestyle, culture, and sport. We love to ride, build, restore, oggle and sometimes race bicycles. We also love to talk on at great length about our ideas, opinions and exploits involving all of the above. Welcome to our BLOG!

Abandon Your Car is not a slogan or ideology so much as a reminder to all of us to get away from our petro-mobiles as often as we possibly can and embark on life as an adventure by bicycle.

We'll keep you current on the important road and trail beta from our home base in Palisade, Colorado and shower you with our .02 cents about the ongoings of bicycle tribes the world over.

Be sure to tune in for Danny, AKA: the Young Apprenctice, providing the ever important perspectives of a college-bound bike geek and all around brainiac in his NORCAL Updates.

We're glad you're here- look around, drop the Bike Master a line and then get out and ride for awhile- you'll be glad you did!

SRV Sunday ride for 26 April, 2009

hello everyone and welcome to the first (official) posting for the South Routt Velosport Sunday group ride.

in honor of todays great monument of cycling, being held in Belgium, of course, the 95th edition of the incomporable Liege-Bastogne-Liege, our somewhat less ambitious excursion takes in much that South Routt county has to offer as far as rolling hills and rough pavement are concerned. not to mention temperatures predicted to reach a daytime high of about 10 degrees Celsius or so, with a soothing snow to rain mix, one can almost envision the local rendition of Belgium... at 2000 meters of alitude.

first, check in with cycling news for live feed coverage while you enjoy that last hot espresso and pastry before heading out, these guys have been full throttle racing for 5 hours already:

then check the local forecast again just to be sure it's really snowing here in the OC:

today we will roll out from the South Routt Velosport world headquarters at 10 A.M. on the chime for what local roadies refer to as the "Stagecoach-Yampa-Stagecoach" loop. estimated ride time for this 100k classic is just over 3 hours if the wind hasn't kicked up to strong by the time the peleton rolls into Oak Creek for the 2nd and final time. this ride is also a favorite for those riders who enjoy the company of others, but for perhaps a bit shorter duration. because of the "bail" options at the end of each loop, those with heavy legs are presented with a convenient, yet dignified retreat back to town while the others continue on. everyone is welcome, see you there!
